So, my main camera for the past, um, 4 or so years has been my Droid. Previously I had a Nikon Coolpix. Previously as in 6 years ago. But that was a work camera and I didn't really use it much.

Now that I'm doing a bit more travelling, I'd like to bump up my tech and learn some stuff. I want to get a step higher than a pocket point and shoot, but I'm not ready for a DSLR. (My budget is most definitely not ready for one.) I want an in between camera. Something where I can start learning. (And has some great zoom capabilities for panel shots at SDCC next summer.)

My budget is a pretty meager $250 max, but I've found some well reviewed cameras in that area.

I'm looking at the Panasonic Lumix LZ30 which looks like a nice go between an everything auto camera and a DSLR. http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/DMC…

And I've been looking at the Fujifilm FinePix line http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digit…

I'm wondering if any one has any experience with the Lumix or Finepix models and would recommend them or if anyone has any recommends in that price range?

There is zero rush on my purchase as I have a cruise to pay for before I buy the camera to use on said cruise.
