The Japanese government is pledging 47 billion yen (~$473 million) to create an ice wall around the Fukushima nuclear plant. More accurately it will be a wall of frozen earth created by coolant filled pipes in the ground. The technique has been used before but not for radioactive contamination.

There are also reports of new high radiation levels at the plant. But the leak shouldn't affect Tokyo's bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
