The last time a movie made me feel so outright GIDDY was probably the last 15 minutes of Cabin In The Woods. Except Pacific Rim made me feel that way for the entire 2 hours. What a terrific film! Transformers has dominated the genre for so long, I really needed to see a good giant-robots-punching-things movie.

This is the kind of film that, put in the wrong hands, could have been so poorly executed, but because it got people who understood how to do something right, it's probably going to wind up being my favorite film of the year. I mean seriously, it's over-the-top, it's silly on paper, and it's thoroughly AWESOME. And, unlike certain other giant-robots-punching-things movies, you can actually see what's going on, because the cameraman isn't having a seizure.

My headcanon is also that this film is a sequel to Cloverfield, by the way.
