The Peacock Presents At-Home Variety Show feat. Seth McFarlane (wow, that’s a mouthful) premiered today on YouTube and it’s first episode was a short, seven-ish minute look at what Mr. Adrian Monk has been doing during the pandemic, i.e. probably what he had been doing before the pandemic only, you know, moreso.
I actually loved it, especially once we saw Captain Stottlemeyer, Natalie Teeger, and Randy Disher again, too. Heck, they even remembered that Randy was supposed to be a police captain in New Jersey, which is nice.
Monk was a very good show that I watched a lot when I was younger and it felt like a popcorn show, in the good sense of the term. It wasn’t downbeat or heavy — even as Monk suffered under his OCD and struggled to find his wife’s killer, you knew that nothing terrible was going to happen to him or his friends, that he would always catch the bad guy (nobody ever got away with it), and that skills were a gift...and a curse.
So enjoy this (kind of) new episode of Monk. And remember to stay inside!
Oh wait, Monk’s brother! They should have brought him back, too! “I was staying inside before it was [air quotes] ‘cool.’”
