Shout!Factory, the producer behind many fine specialty Blu-Ray and DVDs, will be streaming a 24 hour marathon of classic Toho kaiju films this Saturday, July 18, featuring introductions by Japanese film scholar August Ragone, author of the essential Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters. You’ll be able to watch this on the company’s own website from midnight to midnight, Eastern time, as well as channel 427 on the weird and wonderful PlutoTV, which also boasts a dedicated 24 hour Mystery Science Theater station.

The marathon will feature the original 1954 Godzilla (both the Japanese cut and the Americanized version with Raymond Burr), Godzilla Raids Again (aka Gigantis, The Fire Monster), Rodan, Godzilla Vs. The Thing (aka Godzilla Vs. Mothra), Ghidrah, The Three-Headed Monster, Monster Zero (aka Invasion of Astro-Monster), Godzilla’s Revenge, and Terror of Mechagodzilla, as well as Godzilla-centric episodes of the ‘70s tokusatsu shows Ultra Seven and Ultra Q. In the meantime, here’s a vintage ‘90s Godzilla marathon promo to set the mood:

ADDENDUM: The premiere issue of Godzilla in Hell from IDW Comics, which just dropped this week, is absolutely insane. James Stokoe did the story and art; there’s a preview here. I can’t recommend it strongly enough; just be sure to have the appropriate soundtrack playing when you read it (Mastodon, Sleep, Monster Magnet, or Earthless should do nicely).
