Hey all you ‘deckers and ‘niners - I’m sitting in the vet’s offices waiting for Zulu to come out of surgery to clear a blocked bowel... He’s twelve, and has a strong prognosis going in, but could die on the table... He’s the closest I’ll have to a kid, and my co-dependent partner-in-crime. Please - send him good wishes for a successful operation and a speedy recovery [bangishotyou, I could use another shot of your great good luck here]....

[Update Wednesday night: I am grateful and humbled by the generosity and kindness shown me here. Thank you all. I stopped replying to individual comments when I was called into the operating room by the vet - please do not take my lack of an individualized response as a personal slight.

Zulu’s blockage, in his small intestine, was in fact cancer which had finally occluded his bowels. The cancer has already metastasized to his lymphatic system. The offending section of bowel, not necrotized, was removed and the bowel resected, and at least some of the lymph nodes were removed. Zulu is in recovery at the vet’s offices until Friday. I can expect to have him as my companion for a few weeks to maybe as many as six months. Pretty good for a 12-year-old shar pei... Good boy, puppyman.]
