The Met Office is to start giving daily 24 hour Space Weather forecasts sometime this Spring. A department of the British government has promised to fund it for three years. The Met Office, based in Exeter, Devon and Aberdeen in Scotland (though they have locations from Middle Wallop to Lossiemouth), have been working on this for 2 years and will be collaborating with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Centre (sic in the Met Office press release, it is really a Center). Other UK bodies contributing to the project include the British Geological Survey, Bath University and RAL Space.
In other news, the Shokalskiy is still stuck in ice.
