And, according to Mother Jones, those little cups are made out of #7 plastic, which is basically the "other" category for plastic. Keurig refused to disclose what types of plastic are used in their K cups, which means that they would not be readily recyclable.

The company has committed to making their K-cups recyclable by 2020, but in the meantime that's going to be a whole lot of cups circling the planet over the next six years.
