Treehugger has a profile of Belgian “visionary architect” (apparently that is a real term), Luc Schuiten, who is also a graphic novelist, with his brother Francois. The picture above is from one of the stories in “The Hollow Grounds” trilogy, which is how I became familiar with his work. Here’s an architectural model of a similar house as shown in the illustration;
Schuiten is a true ecological idealist; developing his ideas without much hope of seeing his vision realized. His architecture is based on biomimecry, that he calls “archiborescence” or “vegetal cities, and in many cases, uses living trees as the foundation for the structures.
