Back in April, it was reported that ABC was looking at a Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD spin-off starring Adrianne Palicki as Mockingbird and Nick Blood as Lance Hunter. And then in May, when Season 3 of Agents of SHIELD was announced, it was reported that the spin-off was put on hold and that Mockingbird and Hunter were too important to the main show. And now, the spin-off may be back on, this time with a name: Marvel’s Most Wanted.
Of course, now that ABC has ordered a pilot for the show, they are stating that it’s not a spin-off.
Titled Marvel’s Most Wanted, the drama was rumored to be in early development last pilot season and was originally conceived as an Agents of SHIELD spinoff featuring both characters. However, Marvel and ABC have instead picked up a pilot for what’s being described as a new take focusing on the same duo and their continuing adventures.
So it’s a “new take” focusing on the “same duo.” The same duo that first appeared in Agents of SHIELD. Which means it’s still a spin-off. I mean, if Mork and Mindy is called a spin-off of Happy Days then I think this show is definitely a spin-off of Agents of SHIELD.
But, in any case, only the pilot has been ordered so far, to be helmed by Agents of SHIELD executive producer Jeffrey Bell and series writer Paul Zbyszewski. So perhaps this will be a new show or perhaps it won’t. (It doesn’t help that I keep thinking about Muppet’s Most Wanted when I hear the name.)
