Meet Danny Pink, Doctor Who's new quasi-companion

The BBC have just revealed Samuel Anderson - known for his two year stint as Ross Kirk on Emmerdale, as well as the role of Crowther in Alan Bennett's The History Boys - will be joining the cast of Doctor Who's eighth series as a recurring character, part of Clara's life outside the TARDIS...

Danny will be a teaching colleague of Clara's at Coal Hill School (a job she acquired between The Name of The Doctor and The Day of The Doctor), who will presumably will get caught up in her time-travelling adventures with the new Doctor over the course of the next series. Here's what the man himself has to say about joining the show:

I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started!

It's a quintessential part of British culture and I can't believe I'm part of it. It's an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can't wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!

The BBC also confirmed guest stars for the currently filming episodes 4 and 5 - Robert Goodman will star in Episode 4, while Jonathan Bailey and Pippa Bennett-Warner will feature in Episode 5.
