As the settling of the turkeys happens here in the US on Thursday, lots of people consider it the opening of the mad dash to Christmas. Tis the season to deck the halls and melt the credit cards! I'm not a huge fan of the Thanksgiving/XMas/New Year juggernaut.; frankly, I think it's gone so far beyond any sentiment attached to it that I recede into my cozy turtle shell even more than normal.
However, there are a few things I do enjoy during this tumultuous season. I present exhibit A:
Watching this movie has become a new tradition with me when the holidays decide to vomit their festivities all over my doorstep and I find it's one of the few respites I get during this time of the year. If you haven't seen it, here are some highlights:
I also don't think a Christmas party is complete until a stunned look of horror creeps over the party-goers faces as this little tune plays over the speakers (WARNING! NSFW! Do not play this at the office, if you are easily offended, have never heard of Pansy Division or are a stick in the mud!!):
Seriously, That song makes me smile hard.
Having said that, the one aspect of the holidays, regardless of religion, that I do thoroughly enjoy is giving presents. I don't really care if I get something in return, there is just something exceedingly fun about seeing someone get something you've chosen for them, even if it's just a gift card.
Lately I've been making a lot of my presents. In fact I have a small group of friends who get a little disappointed if I don't give them something I've made.
Anyhoo, where is this going?
Oh, yeah. What are your not-so-traditional holiday traditions? It can be any holiday. Hell, I think Arbor day is seriously neglected!
Also, try to find a gif that rounds up your sentiment. Like this:
