You may recall a few weeks ago when I asked everybody to take a look at my friend's crowdfunding page, trying to help get her mom to Sochi to watch her work as an official at the Olympics. Since the games are now in full swing I thought I'd give you an update:
So far she has officiated the Women's hockey game between Japan and Sweden. No terrible missed calls, no penalties called that should have been ignored; basically an awesome job because she's awesome.
But as cool as working the games is, it's probably even cooler being part of the Olympic community. Case in point:
That's Erin in the middle. The guy on the left is Alexei Yashin, no big deal. The guy on the right you may recognize from the opening ceremonies, Vladislav Tretiak. He's the one that lit the torch. More importantly for this story, he and Erin both used to be goalies. If you're not a hockey fan and don't know who he is think of it this way: What is the one thing you love doing the most? Now make a list of the three people in history who were the absolute best at doing that thing. Then imagine meeting one of those people.
*By the way, the fundraising effort still has a few days and a few hundred dollars to go if you want to go there and chip in a few bucks.
