In an interview with Collider, Guillermo Del Toro dropped some details about the hotly anticipated Pacific Rim animated series.
It was originally believed that the series would take place after the events of the graphic novel Tales From Year Zero, but that is apparently not the case. According to Del Toro, the series will actually be set in the time frame between the first movie and the sequel. The director also promised that the series would follow a continuous story-line rather than being episodic in nature.
Del Toro also mentioned that the series will be aimed at younger viewers, but I don't imagine that will stop any of us from watching it. The greatest news seems to be that there will be new characters added to the Pacific Rim universe through the animated series. Del Toro said that there will be
we have cameos of characters from the first movie, but mostly it's a new set of characters. New jaegers, except for one or two, [and] new kaijus."
The introduction of new jaegers and kaiju of course means an expansion of NECA's already fantastic Pacific Rim toy line.
