Another great Pink Martini concert last night at the beautiful outdoor venue at the Arvada Center, just a short drive from our home. It was the first time we'd heard their new vocalist, Storm Large, who's been filling in for China Forbes while China recovers from vocal chord surgery. Storm (born Susan Storm Large) is a blond amazonian with a great voice, and who shares the ability with China to sing in Romanian, Spanish, Japanese, etc.

Band leader Thomas Lauderdale once described Pink Martini as something like "if the United Nations had a house band in 1965, that would have been Pink Martini".

The band performed several songs off their latest (due out September 24th) "Get Happy". Looks to be another great eclectic album.

One of the new songs was a pop song originally performed by Dinah Shore. In 1965. Which Shore sung in Farsi. So of course Storm also sung it in Farsi. Man, if reality doesn't continue to just astound you, you aren't paying attention.

Obligatory SF content: the song in the YouTube video is one of the bands' favorites: Brazil.
