Illustration for article titled Question for Superman fans, esp. those who read his comic books.

I managed to catch the Superman vs. Batman trailer last night, and one thing that struck me was how hard they're trying to push the idea of Superman as some sort of Christ-like figure, even more so than Man of Steel, which already contained some egregious Christian allegory.

Most of my knowledge of Superman comes from TV shows and movies, and I think I've seen a little bit of everything in that regard — the film series with Christopher Reeves (RIP), Smallville, the TV series with Dean Cain (lol), the Justice League cartoon, etc. And I don't think I've ever picked up a strong Messiah vibe from those.

So, that leaves the comic books. Does this idea of Superman as Jesus ever get pushed in the comics? I've never picked up a Superman comic book in my life, so I'm genuinely curious.

Also, if you're a Superman fan, how do you feel about this Space Jesus (h/t Chrono) thing the Zach Snyder movies have got going on? I'm curious about this too. I have my own thoughts, but they come from a place of not liking either Superman or organized religion all that much.
