I used to love the Xanth novels as a young teen. They were fantasy, they were funny, easy to read and naughty. I eventually grew out of them, to the point where I was embarrassed about reading them. Looking back, I have known that Peirs Anthony's descriptions and treatment of women are troubling, but I never dared try read them again. This article really lays out the problems with the novels, and I had always kind of assumed that the novels got worse as the series kept going, but now it's clear they were problematic from the start.
