Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks
Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks

The above video has no direct links to science fiction, fantasy, horror, science, or futurism1. It’s a video from Rugrats, an animated American television program that aired episodes from 1991 to 2004. I would generally say it is outside of Observation Deck content, but io9 wrote directly about it earlier this year2, and Observation Deck is io9's “official user forum”, so therefore that means we can also talk about Rugrats3.

Today’s topic if you choose to discuss it:

Did you watch Rugrats? Or any of the Nicktoons, really. This question is fairly inclusive.

Alternate topic:

Do you own any Funko Pop! vinyl toys?

author’s answers: I was never very much into Rugrats but I was into The Ren & Stimpy Show (so I am really annoyed that Kricfalusi is a toxic human being) and Doug and Rocko’s Modern Life. I own four Funko Pop! vinyl toys which are gifts. They are characters from a show which io9 has talked about, and then stopped talking about, and then decided to talk about again.

1 Rugrats has Reptar and Reptar is very obviously an expy of Gojira, and Gojira is a long-standing fantasy franchise. Therefore, Rugrats has at least one indirect link to fantasy.

2 In 2012 and 2016 they wrote about Nicktoons in general, which did include some science fiction and fantasy properties. But those were published back when io9 was primarily a science fiction/fantasy/horror/science/futurism website, as opposed to now when it has decided it is primarily a pop culture website.

3 Similarly, io9 has posted articles about The Golden Girls. That’s why an Observation Deck article about The Golden Girls was topical.
