Just went looking for one thing and found something else entirely. Over the New Year holiday, Radio 4 ran a new audio version of The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham. It was Wyndham’s novel that formed the basis of the movies Village of the Damned and Children of the Damned.
I got round to listening to this new radio production a couple of months back. And very good it was too. I hadn’t twigged that it was produced by Graeae, a theatre company run by disabled actors.
Today, I stumbled upon an additional chapter. Does this count as silent radio? This is a signed and text version of The Midwich Cuckoos, part post-script with Zellerby’s daughter coming to terms with why her father came to meet an explosive end in a house full of mutant hybrids from outer space.
Does it work? I’ll let you decide.
