Why everyone is flipping out about Valve's new controller?

I mean, I get looking at it and being like "Wow, that... looks awful." I mean, that's an opinion that's valid. Nobody's used it, so you won't REALLY know, but it certainly doesn't look like something I'd use. What I'm talking about is people who are using it as like hardcore evidence that the SteamOS/Steamboxes/entire operation will fail.

People... realize that they're basically just talking about a PC with some functionality baked in to make it easier to connect to televisions, right? And that if they prefer their 360s/PS3 controllers they can just... plug those in? And use them? Welcome to PC gaming?
