Sony has let Peter out to play with the other kids in the MCU, but do we know all the strings are attached or how long it will be before playtime is over? This post is mainly speculation on my part, but since it contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.... a little warning before we continue.

So what to make of Spider Man’s fate at the end on Avengers: Infinity War... those last fleeting moments as Peter pleads for his life, but inevitably turns to dust in Tony’s arms. Was this shocking and powerful moment ruined for you by the knowledge that Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 was already in the planning stages?

It was Sony who let the cat out of the bag. Once the news broke, Kevin Feige had to weigh in. But what might this say about the relationship between the studios? Homecoming 2 is set to hit theaters on July 5, 2019. That’s just a little over two months after Avengers 4. This creates a dilemma for Sony, who definitely wants to market its new movie.

Given this potential friction between the studios and Sony’s launch of their own venom-verse, could this be the final foray of Spider Man in the MCU? Such a scenario may depend on the success of Sony’s Venom film. Still, this added an interesting subtext to that final scene between Peter and Tony in Infinity War.
