As you probably already know, today was the release day of Star Wars #1, Marvel's first Star Wars comic book in over twenty years. It was written by Jason Aaron (the writer of Thor and Southern Bastards) and drawn by John Cassady (the artist of Planetary). And it was fucking awesome.
I don't want to give too much away, because, if you are a Star Wars fan, you really need to experience this for yourself. Just the first pages give you a thrill, because it's set up like one of the movies - first a page with "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." and then a two page spread with just the words "STAR WARS" and you know it's going to be awesome.
I will, however, spoil some things, because there are three moments that made me go "FUCK YES."
1) Luke Skywalker finds a pen full of slaves and gets attacked by the slavemaster. He cuts off the guys hand (YES) and then, to the room full of slaves, he goes: "Anyone who hates the Empire... follow me."
2) The Negotiator arrives. (You'll understand when you read it.) I didn't realize he was going to show up and then he did and I knew everyone was fucked and it was awesome.
3) The very end. "Luke... Listen to me carefully... Run."
Seriously. If you like Star Wars, go out and buy this comic.
