Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks

Star Wars bot Army established beachhead on Twitter

An army of 350,000 Star Wars themed bots were found on Twitter reports the New Scientist. Researchers at University College London studying a sample of Twitter users found strangely uniform clusters in Europe, North Africa and North America, many in desert and ocean areas.

The accounts were sending out random quotes from Star Wars novels between June and July 2013. The researchers used these accounts to develop an algorithm to identify bot nets on platforms such as Twitter.

The exact purpose of the Star Wars net remains unknown, like a modern numbers station.
