So I was watching the Twilight Zone marathon on Syfy before heading out to observe the 4th with friends when "Number 12 Looks Just Like You" came on. It's been a while since I've last seen it and it's held up well in a lot of ways. Spoilers for a classic episode you should have already seen ahead.

If you're paying attention, it's pretty clear that the operation does more than make someone beautiful (at least someone's definition of beauty). Though it does bestow important health benefits (doubling life span) it also makes you a more compliant citizen.

Portrait of a young lady in love, with herself. Improbable? Perhaps. But in an age of plastic surgery, body building and an infinity of cosmetics, let us hesitate to say impossible. These and other strange blessings may be waiting in the future, which after all, is the Twilight Zone.


But of course we've progressed past obsession with how we look, right?
