Gimlet Media has released two brand new podcasts this week, which just happen to be related to both science and science fiction. I’ve started listening to them and they are pretty great.

The first is The Habitat. It’s about a fake space colony that was set up in a remote area in Hawaii to test what would happen to a group of people on Mars. The tagline is “The true story of a fake planet.” The story is narrated by Lynn Levy, with recordings from the participants audio diaries. And yes, it’s all true.

If you are more interested in the science fiction side of io9, however, the second podcast is Sandra, a story set in the near future where A.I.s are ubiquitous (and they sound like more advanced Alexas or Janets). The main character, Helen (voiced by Alia Shawkat — yes, Maebe from Arrested Development) gets a job at Orbital Teledynamics, the company that makes and runs Sandra (voiced by Kristin Wiig) in an attempt to better her life.

I’ve only listed to the first episode so far, but it’s definitely interesting and something I can see working just as well as movie or TV show.
