The Radio Times is dropping some serious rumour-bombs about Doctor Who

As a magazine with long established close ties to the BBC, Radio Times is generally careful when it comes to posting rumours - so the fact that sources have delivered not one, but two tasty tidbits about the future of Doctor Who is quite exciting...

The first rumour concerns the next Doctor - sources have told RT that 'serious consideration' is being given to a special episode of the much-missed Doctor Who Confidential being run that, á la the January 2009 special that unveiled Matt Smith to the world as the Eleventh Doctor. But the key aspect of the rumour is that, whatever means the BBC choose to do it with, we'll know who is the next Doctor sometime in August.

Now... this is where it gets interesting.

Alongside this rumour is a very tasty little something indeed, concerning November's 50th Anniversary Special. We know Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt are all in as The Doctor, and we know that unfortunately Christopher Eccleston turned down a chance to return as his Ninth Incarnation. But Radio Times have this to offer us:

Doctor Who's 50th anniversary show will feature one of the five former doctors who wielded the Sonic Screwdriver before the Eccleston reboot, RadioTimes.com understands.

According to sources, one of either Colin Baker, Paul McGann, Tom Baker, Sylvester McCoy or Peter Davison will be in the feature length special episode alongside Tennant’s Doctor and the current incumbent Matt Smith.

Yes yes yes, it's a 'past doctor is returning', not the biggest surprise rumour, but considering RT's had a decent track run with this sort of thing, It has a sense of credence to it.

Take it with a pinch of salt, but suffice to say... my campaign to get Paul McGann back in the show STARTS HERE!
