As one of only 6 copies on the Planet, the Pikachu Illustrator Card that's appeared on eBay is attracting a lot of attention. And it's going for a pretty penny, too - well, actually, ten million pretty pennies...

The Grade 9, Mint condition (the highest quality the card can be) card is coveted amongst Pokémon TCG fans as one of the rarest cards in the entire range, and only one of a few to have the 'double star' rarity rating. The Pikachu Illustrator card was originally given out as a prize in Japan for the 1997 CoroCoro Pokémon Illustration Contest, which tasked participants to draw art for a select range of Pokémon cards. There are only 6 cards in existence - 4 were given to winners of the contest, another in circulation and one kept for posterity by the Official Pokémon TCG Blog.

However, despite the attention around the cards appearance, eBay user Smpratte might have trouble unloading the card with a price tag of $100,000. Whilst the Pikachu Illustrator card is both desirable and extremely rare, it has only sold for a fraction of that price in the past - although it has sold for as high as $20,000 previously, the most recent sale of one in Japan last July went for only $10,000.

Man, this makes the sealed Starter set from the original TCG series sitting on my shelf look like chump change...
