Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks

This tiny cheetah and his puppy friend will make your day better.

I got Mythbri's blessing to tell you about a very special animal pair, Ruuxa the cheetah cub and Raina the Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy. They are being raised together at the San Diego Zoo San Diego Zoo Safari Park, which pairs domestic dogs with cheetahs for their Animal Ambassador program. Io9 has covered this before, but basically, the cheetahs in the program are brought off the zoo site for educational presentations, and the dogs help keep them calm in public as cheetahs are naturally very wary (like more so than other animals).

The zoo has been doing this for years, but this pairing is special because of how young the animals are. The staff usually introduces the cheetahs to their dogs when they are three months old and six months old, respectively. However, Ruuxa and Raina were introduced early at six weeks old and seven weeks old because Ruuxa was rejected by his mother. Anyway, let's get to the good part — the pictures!

P.S. For those unfamiliar with the breed, which honestly kind of sounds like a dragon species from Harry Potter, this is what a full-grown Rhodesian Ridgeback looks like:
