It’s the last day of final exams! Share your stories of the best or worst exams you’ve taken.

The hardest final exam I ever had to take was in non-Euclidean Geometry. It was an oral exam and consisted of three proofs. We all had to make appointments to visit the professor’s office individually and draw three random theorems from a bowl. We then had to immediately state the proof of each one with no additional time to prep. I’m pretty sure the C he gave me was a mercy grade for not simply melting through the floor.

The best one was in AP English in high school. We had taken the AP exam a couple weeks earlier and had spent the last days of class goofing around and talking about whatever books we were pleasure reading at the time. All year in class it had been standard practice to come in on Wednesdays and be given a topic to write on and turn in our work at the end of class. The teacher (best one I ever had) told us to expect the same for the final exam.

We show up, she passes out the exam which reads: Discuss the symbolism used by the author of the poem below.

Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray the Lord my soul to keep.

If I die before I wake

I pray the Lord my soul to take.

We all just sat there in stunned silence for 5 or 10 minutes until the teacher announces “Oh, I forgot to mention... Anybody who makes me laugh gets an automatic A.”
