When did the first married couple fly together in space?

On this date in 1992 the space shuttle Endeavor lifted off with the Spacelab-J as payload. Mission specialists Nancy Jan Davis and Mark Lee became the first married couple to be in space at the same time. They met during astronaut training and married in secret. They announced their marriage shortly before the shuttle launch when it was too late for NASA to make a crew change. NASA has since changed their rules and will not allow married astronauts on the same flight.

STS-47 also featured the first African-American woman in space (Mae Jemison) and the first Japanese astronaut (Mamoru Mohri) to fly on a shuttle mission.
