This is an artist's concept drawing of the Glory satellite launched on March 4, 2011. The Glory mission was to improve understanding of climate change by collecting data on the properties of aerosols in Earth's atmosphere and measuring solar energy. Unfortunately the craft failed to reach orbit.

But every failure is a learning opportunity. While NASA's mishap investigation board was unable to determine a definitive cause for the nosecone failure, it did recommend ways to prevent further problems.
