Welcome to a very special edition of Tuesday Game Room! You might have noticed this week we're running an hour earlier - that's not because there's more games to talk about, but because we're going to be doing something very special. TGR takes on the Xbox Reveal - and we're doin' it LIVE! (UPDATE: The live blog is over, but come join us anyway!)
In a relatively quite week, I've been re-familiarising myself with Star Trek Online ahead of this week's release of Legacy of Romulus by jumping into a few PvE group missions aboard the U.S.S. Forest of Arden. I'd forgotten how much fun space combat is in that game, even moreso with groups of ships. Plus, always fun as an Escort Carrier to be flanked by wings of my own little fighter ships. Fly, my pretties! Torpedo those goddamn Borg Spheres!
Aside from that, I finished up Persona 4 Arena's story mode. I ended up really, really enjoying it - it's mostly fanservicey nonsense (Akihiko likes punchin' shit and training! Naoto gets all detective-y! Kanji is dumb! Chie loves steak! YAAAAAAAY), but it's good fanservicey nonsense. And despite the annoyance of having to repeat content and scenes thanks to it being told from each character's perspectives, I really liked how it left the Persona 3 and 4 characters, and potential setups for plots not just in an Arena sequel, but potentially in Persona 5 and beyond. Also, surprisingly enough, it's the first game this year (and the first fighting game, well, ever) that managed to make me absolutely bawl my eyes out at a plot point. So thanks for that, Persona 4 Arena.
It's a pretty light week once again, but there's a few releases here and there. As I mentioned above, the first expansion to Star Trek Online, Legacy of Romulus, will be available for free today, letting you get your Romulan on for the first time in the game. Also released today across all platforms are the HD version of the hit 3DS horror-leaning Resident Evil game, Resident Evil: Revelations and... Fast & Furious: Showdown, a movie tie in game out to capitalise on the release of the lastest Fast & Furious movie. Like I said, pretty dry week!
Out on digital fronts this week is Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, which brings the series back to its rootin-tootin roots in the old west, after the fairly dire 'gritty modern reboot' that was The Cartel. And what's this - a Nintendo game releasing in the US on a Friday rather than Sunday!? Yes, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, the new 3DS port of 2010's pretty awesome Donkey Kong Wii game.
There's no usual news this week, except for one pretty big thing: Almost right now, Microsoft are revealing the next Xbox from their headquarters in Redmond, Washington. So I thought, as it's happening pretty much the same time as when I usually post Tuesday Game Room, I'd do something a little different. Join me at 10AM PDT/1PM EDT/6PM GMT right here in this post, as I live blog the reveal of next generation of Microsoft's console!
We'll be back this time next Tuesday for more gaming discussion, but for now, sound off in the comments with the games you've been playing, what you're looking forward to this week, and what you think of the next Xbox!
