As is wont with video games, after a deluge of mass hysteria with the release of Xbox One and PS4 it's all suddenly gone a bit quiet again. So whether you're a European waiting for the PS4 this Friday, or an American anticipating an absurd quantity of Turkey, it's a bit of a sedate edition of Tuesday Game Room!
What have you been playing this week?
I might have been distracted a little this week by Doctor Who, but I still got some gaming in, advancing Velnaar the Draenei Paladin to Level 50. But the biggest game I've played this week has been 'do I want to put the XCOM disc in and submit myself to such stress?'.
Suffice to say, I did not play much XCOM this week. I need to try and get over this psychological hump and plough through, because I love XCOM dearly... it just puts me through a ringer every time I play it.
Pfft, you expect video games to come out with the arrival of the new generation? Think again!
This has got to be the quietest release week I've ever seen, understandable after the swathe of titles from last week. Air Conflicts: Vietnam hits 360 and PS3, and a new Ys game, Ys: Memories of Celceta hits Vita. Thanksgiving day sees the much anticipated release of potential game of the year candidate Professional Farmer 2014 on PC.
That's it. That's literally it. Except if you're in Europe, in which case, the Playstation 4 comes out! For a full list of titles, check out the TGR from two weeks back.
And now, the News
Once again it's time for a few select picks from the last week of Gaming news, via Eurogamer:
- PERUSONA! Atlus's 72-hour livestream culminates in a swathe of Persona game announcements - Well, holy shit Persona fans! Atlus' 72 hour livestream of total weirdness ended early Sunday morning with the reveal of four new games in the ever growing franchise: A home-console port for Persona 4: The Ultimax: Ultra Suplex Hold, the updated version of Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, a rhythm game featuring the soundtrack of Persona 4 based on the popular Hatsune Miku Project Diva F games, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, an ultra-adorable Persona 3 and 4 crossover game for 3DS that apes Atlus' popular Etrian Odyssey franchise, and finally, after years of speculation, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5, which is out exclusively on PS3 late next year. Now begins the waiting game for all these to be localised in the west!
- Microsoft hastily cuts Xbox One ties with Youtuber KSI amid sexism controversy - Thankfully MS were very quick to deal with this once it blew up late last week. KSI's particular brand of 'banter' (read: being extremely offensive to women at Eurogamer Expo) is not something they should have the Xbox brand associated. The sad thing about this fallout that Videogamer.com - who's youtube video calling out MS and KSI's partnership brought all this up - face financial issues with Youtube after KSI put out a fraudulent copyright claim on their original video, making them unable to monetise their excellent video output on the site.
- Brace yourselves: A Telltale Games Game of Thrones Game might be coming - That's a lot of use of the word 'Game' right there. My guess? It's basically The Walking Dead, but you play as Hodor and the dialogue options are all either 'Hodor' or '...'. It'll be game of the year.
- Xbox One's TV focus might have problems in Europe - Oh dear. We in the UK and Europe tend to get the short end of the stick when it comes to Microsoft's media focus in the first place, but the fact that the TV side of Xbox One, arguably the machine's biggest draw in the wider market, doesn't even work properly with our Telly signals does not bode well. Hopefully the problem isn't as serious as suggested and it all gets worked out soon.
We'll be back this time next Tuesday for more gaming discussion, but for now, sound off in the comments with the games you've been playing, and what you're looking forward to this week - and don't forget to join us on Steam!
