The sequel to the greatest Total War game - success being measured by it being the one to get turned into a TV game show HOSTED BY RICHARD HAMMOND! - hits this week, but there's a lot more than the virtues of mighty Rome to extol. Friends, niners, countrymen, lend me your keyboards for this week's Tuesday Game Room!
What have you been playing this week?
As you might have seen, I've been one of the lucky ones not to be blighted by many server woes and played quite a chunk of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and loving it. In fact, this post is a bit late because I just spent an exhilarating and frustrating 3 hours fighting Titan, the Primal of Earth. WORTH IT THOUGH. Read a little more about the misadventures of my cat man lancer here. But for once, I've been playing more than an MMO this week!
I finished Saints Row IV last night, and it is far and away the funniest 20 hours I've spent with a video game since... well, Saints Row The Third. I was worried that this would be too soon a sequel, considering it was meant to be an expansion pack at first, but that worry was eradicated about 5 minutes in, and I didn't stop hooting until it was all over. Absolutely brilliant.
As I mentioned up top, Total War: Rome II is the banner release for PC this week, but it's not the only title we've got to look forward to.
Rayman Legends finally makes its way to Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360 after a length delay, and the latest in boob jiggling software, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate hits Xbox 360 and PS3. The last notable release is the console release of Diablo III, bringing blizzard's own brand of hell to PS3 and 360 for the first time since Diablo for Playstation 1!
And now, the News
Once again it's time for a few select picks from the last week of Gaming news, via Eurogamer:
- The Xbox One will not support External Hard Drives at Launch - the number of Xbox One features that aren't actually going to be available for launch in November is beginning to get a little disconcerting. Hopefully Microsoft will get its butt in gear as soon as possible.
- Square Enix stops sales of FFXIV due to overwhelming popularity and clogged up servers - This has to be one of the strangest MMO launches I've ever seen. How can a game be too popular? How is the game that is, a reboot of one of the most troubled and disastrous MMOs in recent history? As a sorry for the multitude of login errors players have suffered, S-E intend to offer everyone an extra week of free time - as well as a bunch of new, larger servers to handle the load.
- Nintendo announced the Nintendo 2DS... really - SERIOUSLY WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THING GUYS. It looks like one of those 5-in-1 Tiger handhelds from the nineties. I'm all for a budget entry handheld, but as much as I love Nintendo, the 2DS (what an absurd name, by the way) just baffles me.
- Dragon Age Inquisition brings back tactical view, adds playable Qunari - Man, Bioware's media blowout in the last week has gotten me really excited for this game. It might just be my most anticipated title next to Destiny next year!
We'll be back this time next Tuesday for more gaming discussion, but for now, sound off in the comments with the games you've been playing, and what you're looking forward to this week - and don't forget to join us on Steam!
