I was perusing Netflix and I discovered that it has ALL the Jack Ryan movies: Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Hunt for Red October, Sum of All Fears and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Let’s talk about this.

The Hunt for Red October with (young!) Alec Baldwin has the benefit of being the first one, but also has Sean Connery NOT EVEN TRYING to be Russian, Sam Neil dreaming of Montana, James Earl Jones AND Tim Curry doing their scene-stealing thing PLUS I’ve seen the movie/read the book a bajillion times. Those are very strong arguments.

Not to be left behind, the two Harrison Ford ones (Patriot Games/Clear and Present Danger - the movies are being meshed into one as my memory can no longer separate them. And I even read the books) also had some great moments: Harrison Ford, Sean Bean being Sean Bean (SPOILER: he dies), Harrison Ford, a non-Russian enemy (Irish terrorists in one, and Columbian drug lords in the other, I think), some scenes on a boat? And Harrison Ford. Plus, remember when they were on TV like ALL the time? Was the licence super-cheap or something? (Completely off topic, but remember when A&E got the rights to a new movie and they played it NONSTOP for weeks?? I’ve half-watched True Lies and St Elmo’s Fire many many times because of them.)

Sum of All Fears I watched once. It had that new Batman guy, Ben Affleck, as Ryan. I remember Morgan Freeman was there. And Zefram Cochran. And Caesar/King Beyond The Wall Cieran Hinds. And a lot of Hey! It’s That Guy! Nuclear bombs? Maybe I should rewatch this one.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit I haven’t seen. I’m kinda surprised it didn’t make more of a splash. Pretty Chris Pine! Kevin Costner (who will always have a special place in my heart)! Keira Knightley? Really? And it was directed by Kenneth Branagh! This really seems like something I would be interested in, actually. I’m totally gonna watch it later.

ANYWAY, my poor, lost question is WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE JACK RYAN, IN ALL HIS ANTI-TERORIST GLORY??
