Very strange

Artiofab has brought to my attention that my rather silly take on today's fascinating story about the creation of a semi-synthetic microbe has close to 5,000 views. These are pretty substantial numbers for an ODeck post on its own without any apparent amplification from a mainpage signal boost or any other species of highly visible crosspost. I have done some Google searches on my headline and the blog entry appears nowhere of note. Just ends up getting caught in the filters of a bunch of bot controlled news aggregators nobody ever looks at.

The only thing I can think of to account for these views is that my post has a some good visibility in Google News searches. Like if someone were to use the terms "scientist" and "E. coli", my post is at the very top of the heap. But then again, I never know if Google is tailoring search results based on what I've already been looking at. Aside from this theory I have no idea how something that would have been lucky to get 100 views ended up with several thousand.
