Over the last week Blizzard have been releasing segments of a new World of Warcraft animated comic called The Burdens of Shaohao, featuring the breathtakingly beautiful artwork of concept artist Laurel Austin. Dive in and learn about the last Emperor of the Pandaren, and how he saved Pandaria from certain destruction.
Narrated by the delightful Jim Cummings (Darkwing Duck, The current voice both of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Peg-leg Pete, and Minsc of Baldur's Gate!), returning as the archivist Lorewalker Cho, Burdens of Shaohao covers a piece of Azerothian history from long before the games are set. Upon receiving a vision of a cataclysmic disaster coming to Azeroth, the new Emperor seeks the guidance of Pandaria's spritual guardians as to how to avoid the impending catastrophe - only to discover that to save the Pandaren, Shaohao must search within himself and purge his burdens, which begin to manifest as aspects of an ancient, evil god, known as the Sha.
Check out the Prelude up top, and then Parts 1-5 below.
Blizzard have promised similar animated projects in the future, and if they can keep the quality up as wonderfully as they've done here, I'd love to see more Lore retold in this style.
