For today you don't get much beyond actual Google updates to a handful of apps.
Sorry kiddos, but I've got a grandpa and a mom who have had surgery one day after the other (the former on Monday and the latter yesterday and both for relatively serious things) and between that, a day filled with troubleshooting emails at work all yesterday and some weirdness going on with a female bestie (nothing awkward, we've just literally stopped talking in the span of a week and no clue why) I just haven't given much thought to any kind of post.
To kick things off, in semi interesting news. Android Police has made an official APK Mirror website. You want the latest apk files so you can update your Google apps (among others)? This is where you go to get them!
Chrome Stable has hit version 38 and it looks to have some bug fixes. If you're not already on a relatively new version, you'll also notice that it has been incredibly redesigned. Android L/Material Design, baby! Wave of the future! You can get the apk here.
Chromecast has also received an update today. You can now personalize the backgrounds you see when nothing is playing with your own pictures! It'll also be able to show Weather and Art related backdrops and some other stuff. If I were at home I'd give it a look and report further as to what changes you can see, but I'm not and you'll have to see for yourself by updating the app. Do so by grabbing the apk from here.
Play Movies has also received an update, although it's one I think I saw early last week and just didn't notice. You can now pre-order new movies and stream them as soon as they're released. Whether or not that's something you'd want to do I haven't the foggiest, but can't beat an update in my book. So what the hey. Update away by grabbing the apk from here.
Android Wear has hit an update itself, specifically the app for your phone, not the OS on Android Wear devices themselves. Basically updated Play Services for wearables, so nothing you'll likely notice but if you've got an Android Wear device then you'll definitely want to grab the update from here.
If you hadn't seen my Moto 360 review post already, you can also check that out (and count it as today's post, since I did it on a Saturday instead of during the week and that's a rare thing nowadays with my reviews). Here is a link to it and also if you saw it early on then you should know I updated it twice within a day or so to reflect some additional stuff I noticed while using it.
Oh yeah, the Moto X is still partially delayed for those who ordered theirs through the Moto Maker website. Mentioned this yesterday but figured it bears repeating for those who might not have seen that post. You'll get yours if you already put in your order, but it might be off by anywhere from a few days to a week. We've already waited this long, what's a few more days? I'm still kicking myself for not having gone with a black leather back the way I almost did when the black plastic back was showing as unavailable at some point during my die hard attempt to place my order.
That's all I got for you all today. Discuss things among yourselves. I'll likely be busy the remainder of the day and probably the rest of the week. Thanks in advance for any well wishes towards my relatives! (Just in case I can't thank you between now and when I do see your comments if any.)
Expect the Moto X review to go up at some point next week. Can't give a firm date beyond "between Monday and Friday". I for one look forward to having it in my hands. It'll provide a much needed distraction from real life for a wee bit. Also, someone should totally pull a Dude and have a White Russian on my behalf. : )
Update! So during the week it also came out that all current Chromecast owners can get two free months of Hulu Plus! That may or may not be your cup of tea, I know a lot of "regular" people I know signed up for Hulu Plus at one point or another and then cancelled quick, fast and in a hurry because and I quote everyone I know who's used it, "There's still commercials and what you really want to watch isn't on there. I tried that Netflix thing though everyone is talking about. Wow! It's awesome!" But hey, can't beat free. Although fair warning, you have to give Hulu your credit card or PayPal information to even sign up for the free trial, it automatically renews once it's over though. So keep that in mind. Else you'll start getting billed for it even if you don't want it.
