Last week io9 posed the question, "What book would you give someone you wanted to have terrible dreams?" I love posts likes these, whether they're for books or movies, because I get to mine the comments for new suggestions in the horror genre. These posts also tend to result in a shopping and wishlisting spree.
Thanks to io9 commenters, here's what I recently picked up:
- House of Leaves ("hipster horror" a friend calls it)
- It (as in, It's been a long time coming...)
- Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 25th Anniversary Edition (figured this would be worth ordering in hardcover)
- American Supernatural Tales (basically for The Events at Poroth Farm alone — but this book looks awesome, even with just the jacket and paper as shown in front of the fake fire in the pic above)
Many more went to my Amazon wishlist for a future date.
I recently finished Doctor Sleep, which was a good story, but not a good scare. In fact, I'm not sure if it's even supposed to be classified as horror or not. Just started with Phantoms as my next read, however.
So what horror books did you purchase recently because of io9 suggestions, or perhaps just coincidentally?
