It’s a dark and stormy night as Nedry drives furiously to the docks. Beside him are 30 dinosaur embryos, which he stole from his employers InGen to give to their rival geneticist company Biosyn for $1.5 million. However, he loses himself in the storm and for a second, all seems lost. But fortunately for him, he finds the dock and is able to smuggle away the embryos.
Welcome again to Observation Deck’s What If, where we change one bit of the plot of a work and wonder what the consequences would be. This week for the release of Jurassic World, we’ll be looking at Jurassic Park and wonder what would have happened to the characters & that world as a whole if Biosyn had succeed in their plans in the first book/film?
Please feel free to use the books and/or the films for your evidence and go wild with your ideas. No idea is too insane for us here.
Would Biosyn have been able to get away with stealing the embryo or would they have been eventually caught? That very much depends on a number of factors. First of all, we’re told in the book that Biosyn has been successfully able to steal research from other companies before, so they have potential of getting away with it. But then again, unless they’ve been stealing from Umbrella, I doubt they’ve ever stolen something as big as Dinosaur embryos.
You also have the problem of Nedry to deal with because people are going to wonder how someone with financial problems somehow got $1.5 million in the bank. Personally though, I think Nedry’s fate was sealed when he agreed to Biosyn’s plans and he would have met with an unfortunate accident.
This leads to two remaining problems for them, the survivors and Site B. Even with the widely different survivors in both versions of the story, there still remains people who knew what Nedry did though admittedly they don’t know why. Site B was a secret of InGen and in the book, it took over 6 years for anyone to find Isla Sorna and the other 5 deaths (heavily implied in the movie to also have Dinosaurs). But now that Biosyn has Dinosaurs, would they even bother looking for it?
