Big Finish have been turning out Doctor Who audio adventures for close on 20 years. The early ones came out on tape cassette. For a time there was a synergy between the Big Finish productions, Virgin New Adventures and Doctor Who Magazine because the tv show had been cancelled.

BF are celebrating with a massive crossover tale that involves all Doctors and as many fan favourites as you can shake a perigosto stick at. Gizmodo UK has all the details.

I have to confess a love-hate relationship with the BF tales. The early ones sound like Doctor Who to begin with but invariable induce a comatose state before the end. And I detest the instance of packaging “making of“ documentaries with every pack. Others seem to indulge in encounters the tv show had the discipline to avoid.

Part of me feels that making a production out of every lost premise or comic strip is a little too zealous. That said, Farewell, Great Macedon really is the one that got away. And The Fragile Yellow Arc of Fragrance would have made an impressive change of pace if it had made it to the screen.

What’s your favourite BF tale? Which ones do you detest?
