Women are a minority in Hollywood. Not only in front of the camera in starring roles, but behind it as well. From the lowliest crew member to the Hollywood Executive, a large majority of those working on a film are men. And that reflects in how women are portrayed in our media, even in films that say have a female lead or a female director. So it is heartening news that Deborah Snyder (married to Zach Snyder but I am willing to give her benefit of doubt), Producer for Wonder Woman has announced that they have tried to hire as many women as possible for the film.
We’re really happy that we’re going to be going into production in November, it’s been a really great process. We’ve tried to hire as many female members of the crew as possible.
It will be interesting to see how many “as many as possible” ends up being. I admit I wouldn’t be surprised if they just said that for publicity. But I will give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they hired plenty of women.
Production for Wonder Woman will start in November and I look forward to more news and pictures as her first film is FINALLY made after all this time. Until I will just dream it will be a kick ass, amazing, explicitly Feminist film that captures her character as a diplomat who seeks peaceful solutions but is a fierce warrior when needed. And that it will do well enough DC will get off their everything Batman focus.
