Holy cow, the game industry has seemingly gone to hell of late...

I'm a so-so fan of the X series of space sim games. Each one got better and better looking but at the same time, each one got more and more 'complicated'.

Complicated is good. Complicated is popular.

But, with one or two exceptions, its not really for me. I like lots of options but i'm not a fan of minutiae. Think Civ 5 more than Crusader Kings 2...

So when they announced Rebirth and said it would be a more accessible X game, I was kinda thrilled. Was very, very tempted to pre-order it but I already had Arkham Origins and Xcom Enemy Within pre-ordered and so, didn't feel any urgency to jump on it immediately.

This turned out to be a good thing, apparently. The devs seemed to have tried to make this game for the console, failed and then repackaged for the PC. It seems it runs just fine on mid-range PCs using DX9 but is buggy as hell on high-end systems. There's a quote floating around where their PR guy admits they didn't try to optimize for powerful systems.

Anyway, to cut a long and tragic story short, it seems that they served up an horrendous game that's barely skin deep and has really, really ugly ass animated skin at that.

I've read one guy say it makes the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion NPCs look like Skynet AI's...

ouch.

So now? well, all our hopes rest with Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous. I need to be a space trader again and this lazy bullshit is getting in the way...

You cant take the sky from me, you cheap bastards!
